WWDC 2026: iOS 27, Apple Intelligence, and the big new features Apple will present on June 8
Apple Intelligence, Siri with Gemini, and the Liquid Glass redesign take center stage at the most anticipated developer conference of the year.
Apple has officially confirmed the dates for its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2026), one of the most significant technology events of the year. The opening keynote takes place on Monday, 8 June, with the conference running for five full days through to 12 June, featuring technical sessions, hands-on labs and direct access to Apple engineers.
As in previous years, the event will combine in-person attendance at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, with a free live stream available globally via apple.com, the Apple TV app and Apple's official YouTube channel — making all announcements accessible to developers and businesses worldwide, including across the UAE and wider GCC region.
Developers wishing to attend in person at Apple Park were invited to apply through a random selection lottery. The application deadline was 30 March, with selected attendees notified on 2 April. Apple has maintained this lottery system since resuming in-person events in 2022, replacing the previous first-come, first-served model with an open and fair random draw.
iOS 27, macOS 27 and Apple's New Version Numbering
At WWDC 2026, Apple is expected to unveil updates across its entire software ecosystem: iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27 and tvOS 27. It is worth noting that Apple changed its versioning scheme last year, jumping from iOS 18 to iOS 26, adopting a year-ahead numbering system consistent with the long-standing macOS naming convention.
While the operating systems are announced in June at WWDC, the general public release traditionally takes place in September, aligned with the launch of the new iPhone lineup.
Key Features Expected: Liquid Glass, Siri and Apple Intelligence
The WWDC 2026 announcements are expected to centre on refining the "Liquid Glass" visual redesign introduced the previous year — the most significant aesthetic overhaul in iOS since iOS 7 in 2013.
On the artificial intelligence front, Apple is anticipated to make a major move by integrating Google's Gemini AI models into Siri and Apple Intelligence, significantly expanding the assistant's capabilities beyond what Apple's own on-device models currently support. This follows Apple's broader strategy of offering multiple AI engines — including OpenAI's ChatGPT and, now, Gemini — natively within the operating system, while maintaining Apple's signature privacy-first approach.
Apple is also expected to prioritise overall platform stability improvements, directly addressing feedback from the developer community, which has flagged performance issues and regressions in recent release cycles.
Developer Betas and Public Betas
Consistent with previous years, the first developer beta builds of all operating systems will be available to download immediately following the 8 June keynote, enabling development teams to begin adapting and testing their applications from day one.
Public betas, designed for users who wish to try new features ahead of the official release, are expected to roll out in July through the Apple Beta Software Programme.
For organisations operating within the Apple ecosystem — from SMEs and enterprises to government entities across the UAE and the Gulf — the WWDC 2026 is far more than a product showcase. It represents a strategic technology roadmap that directly impacts IT planning, app development cycles, device management policies and enterprise software compatibility.
The integration of Google Gemini into Apple Intelligence opens new possibilities for AI-driven workflow automation, intelligent document processing and productivity tools — areas of growing importance for businesses undergoing digital transformation in the UAE. Companies operating in regulated sectors such as finance, healthcare and government should pay close attention to Apple's announcements around security, privacy controls and enterprise management capabilities in iOS 27 and macOS 27.
With September's public release approaching rapidly after the June announcement, organisations should begin planning their compatibility testing and device update strategies now, ensuring they can leverage the new capabilities of iOS 27 from day one — and maintain continuity across their Apple device fleets without disruption.
